As Coleman approached his twenty-fifth and final year as senior pastor of a local church, he asked the Lord for wisdom for the next chapter in His story for his life. While reading through the Old Testament early one morning he came to Numbers 8. His heart instantly became engaged when he read the heading for verses 23-26…” Retirement of the Levites.”
“And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ‘This applies to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall come to do duty in the service of the tent of meeting. And from the age of fifty years they shall withdraw from the duty of the service and serve no more. They minister to their brothers in the tent of meeting by keeping guard (emphasis added), but they shall do no service. Thus shall you do to the Levites in assigning their duties.’” (Numbers 8:23-26 (ESV).
Coleman considers his “brothers” men and women in vocational ministry who are pastors, and ministry leaders. His sole purpose through “Keeping Guard” is to assist and encourage these servants to live out their call with purpose, joy, integrity and faithfulness.
